Angel Di Maria misses Manchester United’s match against Newcastle this afternoon after picking up an injury during the club’s last training session before the game.
As reported by The Guardian’s Daniel Taylor, it is a bitter pill to swallow for Manchester United as Di Maria had only recently returned to the team following a muscle injury picked up against Hull City earlier this season.
He came off the bench against Aston Villa as he stepped up his recovery, although it’s not clear whether this injury is a reoccurrence of the same problem or a fresh injury.
Whatever the case, it’s bad news for Manchester United. The £60m star started his United career brightly, with a number of eye-catching goals in his first few games.
But since then he’s struggled to stay fit, and may now miss the entire Christmas calendar if this problem proves to be more than just a knock.
The club’s season has been plagued by injury already this term, as Louis van Gaal’s side have suffered almost 50 different injuries to more than 20 first-team players.
It was hoped that United had turned a corner, as the likes of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are almost back and ready to play but this Di Maria setback is a big blow.
