The year 2014 has been a great one in general for the WWE Universe with some great matches and events, and a handful of WWE superstars and divas have also enjoyed a very successful year for various reasons.

A number of superstars and divas have amazed the WWE Universe on multiple occasions, whether it was the matches they put on inside of the ring throughout the year, or whether it was the records they broke and the achievements that came along with it, 2014 was certainly a success for some WWE superstars and divas.

Just missing the cut on my list of the five superstars that excelled in 2014 is the current United States Champion, Rusev. Rusev and Lana have really taken the main roster by storm in 2014 after graduating from NXT, we saw a glimpse of Rusev in January at the Royal Rumble and his current unbeaten run has resulted in him capturing the United States Championship. There’s a chance Rusev could go over a year without being pinned or submitting, that’s certainly a big feat in itself and he has taken a lot by surprise and enjoyed a great year.

It was unclear whether Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins would see a lot of success if and when The Shield would break up as all of the focus was on Roman Reigns but ever since the implosion, Ambrose has been on the rise and is probably the number one face in the company right now and the way he’s going, he probably still will be for years to come. He was in a brilliant feud with Seth Rollins before turning his attention to Bray Wyatt and even though he came out second in both of the feuds, he looked strong and remained over with the crowd.

There have been rumours circulating online that Dean Ambrose could be set to win the Royal Rumble next month and head to the main event of WrestleMania 31; if it does happen then Ambrose’s big year could get even bigger.

Even though he’s not on the main roster just yet, it wouldn’t be fair to leave Adrian Neville out of this list as the man that gravity forgot has enjoyed a fantastic 2014 in NXT. His popularity has increased every single week, he still continued to amaze fans with his incredible move-set and the main roster fans saw a glimpse of what he is capable of when he teamed with Sami Zayn to defeat Tyson Kidd and Tyler Breeze.

He defeated Bo Dallas to become the new NXT Champion back in February of this year and held the championship up until early December where he finally dropped it to Sami Zayn. He’s had a lengthy run as champion which has given him vital experience before his eventual main roster debut, and has picked up a string of big name victories. It’ll be difficult for any NXT superstar to top the year Adrian Neville has had.

Paige was always destined for success ever since she first signed with the WWE and competed on NXT as the NXT Women’s Champion. She debuted on the main roster the night after WrestleMania XXX and shocked the WWE Universe when she dethroned AJ Lee for the Divas Championship. Since then she has been involved in a feud with AJ Lee and has really cemented her spot as one of the top divas in the divas division.

She has excelled so far at such a young age, whether she’s a heel or a face she has a devoted fan base which will only grow as she gets more and more success in the WWE.

Much like Dean Ambrose, it was unclear whether Seth Rollins would remain a top name in the WWE if all the focus was turning to Roman Reigns but he has proved all of the doubters wrong. He broke The Shield, a moment which will go down in history, he won the Money in the Bank briefcase which practically ensures he’ll be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and he has been involved in big-name feuds and in top matches almost every single week.

He’s feuded with Dean Ambrose, John Cena, he’s been a vital asset to The Authority and played a role in the match where Sting finally made his debut in the WWE; Seth Rollins has had an incredible year which is only going to get better in 2015.

I don’t think anybody has had a year quite like Brock Lesnar has had. He started off in explosive fashion when he dismantled The Big Show at the Royal Rumble in January, before doing the unthinkable and conquered The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania. There wasn’t a lot left for Lesnar to accomplish, but he topped ending the streak by destroying John Cena at SummerSlam to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

He then defeated John Cena again at Night of Champions and even though it was through disqualification, there’s no denying that even as a part-time competitor he enjoyed a huge 2014 which could potentially be his final year in the WWE.
