Ryan Bertrand gaining success away from Chelsea

Ryan Bertrand is showing just how good he can be as he is allowed to flourish at Southampton by gaining valuable time on the pitch.

Having started in the Champions League Final for Chelsea big things were expected of the young left back, but he has struggled to reach the heights expected of him. He struggled with the expectations that were put on him at a young age. He was expected to take over the role Ashley Cole nailed down for 10 years without any problems.

Having had an average loan spell at Aston Villa for the second half of last season and the addition of Filipe Luis to the Chelsea squad, Bertrand realised he needed to play regularly should he want a good career as a footballer.

That is exactly what he did. With parties such as Liverpool and Southampton interested in the Englishmen chose Saints - a side known for improving young talents.

Bertrand is currently enjoying his time on the South Coast and is open to making his move permanent in the summer. The Saints have the option to sign him for £8 million in the summer.

Bertrand could have easily stayed at Chelsea, played in the reserves and pick up a nice pay packet at the end of each month. But he is determined to have a good career and is willing to go in search of football.

His loan is the ninth of his career and is expected to be his last. With ambitions of playing for England he is ready to battle it out with Luke Shaw over the years and if that means leaving Chelsea to do that he doesn’t mind.

It just shows if hard work and dedication will open doors for you as long as you don't give up when things get hard, even at a top club like Chelsea.
