Sheffield Wednesday and Ireland International Goalkeeper Kieran Westwood is a wanted man - But he has brushed aside reports linking him with a move to Liverpool, insisting he is happy at Wednesday.
The 30-year-old has been a revelation since arriving on a free transfer from Premier League side Sunderland in last summer’s transfer window. In 24 appearances he has kept an impressive 11 clean sheets, and has produced a series of fine performances to help the Owls move into the top 10 of the Championship.
Speculation has mounted in recent weeks that Westwood is on Liverpool’s radar but the Republic of Ireland international has distanced himself from the transfer rumours regarding his future.
“I’m really happy to be here. I’m enjoying my football and Sheffield Wednesday is a fantastic club to play for,” he said.
Westwood has expressed his gratitude to Wednesday for giving him the opportunity to play regular first-team football following three injury troubled years at Premier League Sunderland.
Having been watched by Roy Keane in Wednesday's win over Wigan Athletic in midweek he added: “I’m delighted with how things have gone and really happy to be playing football again, I had to kick-start my career again, which I think I have done and long may it continue."
If the Republic of Ireland stopper keeps up the level of his performances for the rest of the season it may prove difficult for Wednesday to keep hold of him in next summers transfer window.
