Arsenal will step up their interest in Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin in the summer transfer window, according to the Express.
The Gunners have been credited with interest in the French ace for some time, and it now appears that they will press ahead with a move for the player's services at the end of the season.
In fact, it has been suggested that the north London outfit could spend as much as £25 million on the Southampton star as they go in search of improving in the midfield department.
It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the Saints will be willing to sell to the Gunners after last summer's debacle. Ronald Koeman's side fought hard to keep their star man at the club, but may struggle to maintain his services beyond the end of the campaign.
It certainly won't be easy for the north London outfit to land the 25-year-old, however, with their north London rivals Tottenham also seemingly interested in his signature.
Spurs, of course, attempted to land the Frenchman in 2014 as Mauricio Pochettino attempted to bring his former player to White Hart Lane, and he looks set to make his move once again in the near future.
Arsenal, though, will believe that they can persuade Schneiderlin to the Emirates, with the club in need of improvement in the middle of the park.
A number of the Gunners' midfielders have struggled to hit top form this season, with the likes of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Co. failing to live up to expectations.
Schneiderlin, then, would offer them another option in the middle of the park, but they may well have to wait until the 2015/16 season to secure his services.
It's certainly a transfer saga that looks set to drag on over the coming months, with it now looking increasingly likely that the player's long term future will be in north London.
