Manchester United believe goalkeeper David de Gea will sign a new deal with the club, according to the Express.

It appears, then, that Red Devils chiefs expect the Spanish international to commit his long term future with the club after they secure the services of his international teammate Victor Valdes.

Vales deal

United look set to complete a deal to bring Valdes to Old Trafford in the near future, but that doesn't mean De Gea is heading out of the exit door at the club.

Valdes, who has been in training with United since October, looks set to add competition to the goalkeeping department at the Theatre of Dreams, with Danish shot-stopper Anders Lindegaard expected to be on his way out in this January transfer window.

De Gea, meanwhile, has been heavily linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid in recent time, with a number of reports indicating that Carlo Ancelotti sees the United 'keeper as the long term replacement for veteran Iker Casillas.

United, though, appear determined to keep hold of their No.1, who has been without a doubt their best player over the course of the last 18-months.

Fine form

The Spanish ace has gone from strength-to-strength between the sticks at Old Trafford, so it's no surprise that the Red Devils are determined to keep hold of him.

It remains to be seen as to whether United can secure his services in the near future, but the club's immediate focus will turn to this weekend's Premier League schedule as they play host to top four rivals Southampton.

Van Gaal's side, of course, secured all three points at the St Mary's back in December when they beat Ronald Koeman's side 2-1, but will be expecting another huge test this weekend.

And, as United go in search of all three points, De Gea looks set to start for Van Gaal's side once again. Red Devils fans will be hoping that their 'keeper is once again in inspired form as they go in search of mounting a title challenge in the second half of the season.
