AC Milan must win race for Miranda

Serie A giants AC Milan must ensure they win the race for Manchester United and Chelsea transfer target Miranda.

The 30-year-old is currently a key part of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, but is one of the most coveted assets on the globe with Louis Van Gaal particularly keen to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams.

But given the healthy relationship between Atletico and Madrid, Van Gaal could miss out with Filippo Inzaghi desperate to tempt him to the San Siro in a deal that could be forced through in the summer.

Magical Miranda

Miranda has been one of the most consistent defenders in world football over the past few years, and is one of only three centre-backs currently at the Spanish side’s disposal along with Diego Godin and Jose Maria Giminez.

He helped the club end the stranglehold of Real Madrid and Barcelona to win the La Liga title last term, and was also pivotal in helping them to the Champions League final where they were eventually beaten by their city rivals in dramatic fashion on an eventful evening in Lisbon.

Talk of a move away from the Vicente Calderon has begun to surface given he has won every domestic honour during his time at the club, and with a release clause of £20million is one of a few top defenders available for a respectable fee.

Milan are not able to compete with other clubs across Europe financially, but will hope the promise of a starting berth on such a grand stage will be enough to swing the pendulum their way.

Healthy relationship

Inzaghi could win the race for the Brazilian’s signature after recent negotiations with the La Liga titans over Fernando Torres and Alessio Cerci.

Torres was drafted in on loan from Chelsea back in the summer, but after signing a permanent deal was quickly loaned to Simeone’s side to complete a dream return to the club in which he spent his boyhood years.

In order to sweeten the deal ex-Torino star Cerci was allowed to move in the opposite direction, despite only leaving the Serie A side for the sunny shores of Spain back in the summer.

Like Torres he failed to make his mark, and was quickly moved on in order to relieve the club of his services.

Premier League interest

United are in the market for a new defender and have been linked with Miranda dating back to the days where David Moyes ruled the roost.

Van Gaal is reportedly eying ongoings at Atletico, and may move for his teammate Diego Godin or Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels if the Brazilian does indeed end up on Milanese shores.
