Manchester United are set to confirm the signing of Victor Valdes - but that doesn’t mean that David de Gea will leave the cub.

De Gea has only 18 months left on his contract with Manchester United, and has so far refused to commit his future to the club amidst speculation that Real Madrid could be about to make a £25 million swoop.

Reports today suggest that the Red Devils will open contract talks with the goalkeeper shortly, and signed Valdes in order to provide more competition rather than as a direct replacement.

It does mean however that Anders Lindegaard will be moved on from Old Trafford, while Ben Amos is also free to leave if a suitor comes along.

Manchester United swoop for Suarez?

Staying with the transfer market and Manchester United are being linked with a surprise move for Luis Suarez.

Reports today suggest that the former Liverpool ace could be on his way back to the Premier League already and that the Red Devils are in the mix.

Barcelona appear to be in meltdown and Lionel Messi is at the heart of things. He was dropped for the loss against Real Sociedad and reportedly didn't turn up for training the next day, while his relationship with boss Luis Enrique is believed to be strained.

However club president Josep Maria Bartomeu says that Messi is going nowhere. Instead reports today say that Suarez is the one who could be sacrificed, with Manchester United battling the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea for his signature.

Van Persie set to be rested

Robin van Persie could be dropped for this weekend’s game against Southampton. Boss Louis van Gaal is looking to mix things up after the busy Christmas period and will rest the Dutch ace.

The former Arsenal man has been Louis van Gaal's preferred strike option this season but it looks as though Radamel Falcao has found some form and could be given the nod against the Saints.
