Football News

Another not-so-exciting day in the January transfer window has passed and we still wait for the Gunners to make their first addition. However, today has seen Arsene Wenger move closer to sealing an important deal for the club. Continue reading to get the best of Arsenal's transfer news.

The biggest news comes from the beautiful country of Poland where Legia Warsaw midfielder Krystian Bielik has confirmed he is close, and very intent on, signing for Arsenal. The 17-year-old has been pursued by Arsenal for months with reports suggesting a £2.5 million deal is close.

"I’ve made a decision [to join Arsenal] and I’m not going to change it," he was quoted as saying by Metro. "I am looking forward to an agreement between the heads of the clubs. I realise that the negotiations may take some time. I am, however, confident it will happen soon."

First signing sorted?

Bielik could help to fill the gap left by Patrick Vieira, who is has been likened to, but Wenger is also interested in getting the next star striker to Arsenal this month. The Gunners are looking to sign Boca Juniors striker Jonathan Calleri after scouts returned glowing reports.

One player who also looked set to join Arsenal this month was Saint Etienne captain Loic Perrin but it now appears those plans have been abandoned in favour of a move for Villareal's Brazilian star Gabriel Paulista. The 24-year-old has been a key figure for the Yellow Submarine this season and could be a longer-term option for Arsenal.

Wojciech Szczesny's future at Arsenal took another step towards doubtful today after reports claimed that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will let Petr Cech join any club if he agrees to stay until the summer. Cech is currently playing back-up to Thibaut Courtois but could command the number one jersey if he makes to switch to north London.

Now for something sensational

Luis Suarez has alerted Arsenal after he reportedly sounded out Premier League clubs over a potential return to England. A hierarchical at the Nou Camp has left the former Liverpool star pining for a return, but wants to play for a club that regularly plays Champions League football.
