Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has hailed Victor Valdes as one the world's best goalkeepers after the shot-stopper completed a move to Old Trafford.
The Spanish ace signed an 18-month deal with the Red Devils yesterday evening, and now Rooney has welcomed the former Barcelona man to the club.
Valdes will no doubt go head-to-head with current United No.1 David de Gea for a place in Louis van Gaal's starting line-up as the Spaniard looks to get his career back on track after a long spell on the sidelines.
The 32-year-old tore an anterior cruciate ligament earlier this year, but has regained his fitness as he goes in search of first-team opportunities at the Theatre of Dreams.
And Rooney is certainly pleased with the player's arrival as he's insisted that the 'keeper will prove a great addition to the United squad.
He wrote on his official Facebook page: "Welcome to Manchester United, Victor Valdes. One of the best and most experienced goalkeepers in the world, great addition to the squad!"
Valdes, then, will be hoping to feature in Van Gaal's squad for this weekend's Premier League showdown with top four rivals Southampton.
It's extremely likely that De Gea will start between the sticks on home soil this weekend as he looks to maintain his wonderful form.
Rooney, meanwhile, should also start for the Red Devils, but it remains to be seen as to whether he will star as a midfielder or striker. With the likes of Radamel Falcao, Robin van Persie, Juan Mata and Angel di Maria at the club's disposal, Van Gaal certainly isn't short of attacking options.
Manchester United fans will be hoping the club continue their fine form with another victory on Sunday as they go in search of maintaining their unbeaten run.
After beating Ronald Koeman's side at the St Mary's in December, the Red Devils will be full of confidence heading into Sunday's clash.
