West Ham goalkeeper Adrian has been in terrific form recently and deserves more recognition as one of the top stoppers in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old looked a little rusty at the beginning of the campaign but his form drastically improved and over the Christmas period he has reminded everyone just how good he is with some top-class displays.

Hammers goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms, has stated he is performing as well as anyone at present and he’s been impressed by his attitude, ability and all-round approach to his work since he arrived at the club in October.

"I don't think there is anybody performing in the Premier League as well and as consistently as Adrian at the moment, so long may that continue,” Mimms told the official club website.

The ‘keeper coach can take some of the credit for getting Adrian back in form, but the Spaniard’s star quality was already known from when he burst onto the scene last term – claiming six clean sheets in 20 appearances.

Top level

The Premier League is blessed with some brilliant shot stoppers – Manchester United’s David de Gea has received plenty of plaudits for his spectacular saves this term – but Adrian is definitely of the same ilk.

He has made the second highest amount of saves so far this campaign (65), behind only QPR’s Robert Green (73). If he was at higher profile club with a slightly better defence in front of him he would prosper, but at present the Hammers have only kept four clean sheets all season – largely down to their defensive frailty – which may be why he goes under the radar.

Adrian has made a couple of errors during his time in east London but he is becoming more and more important to the Hammers as he continues to pull off outstanding saves that could prove vital come the end of the season.

He is a big character on and off the pitch and one that reciprocates the love that is shown to him by the Upton Park faithful. It would not be a surprise to see him as a future Hammers captain as he is very vocal and commanding of his defenders.

Sam Allardyce and Mimms will be hoping the ‘keeper can sustain his impressive form and help the side push on for a European place.
