Cowboys' Jerry Jones doesn't regret missing out on Manziel now

Johnny Manziel has received a huge amount media coverage this season and so have America's Team, the Dallas Cowboys.

There was a chance that both Manziel and the Cowboys could have joined forces in the offseason, with Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones hell bent on trying to acquire Johnny Manziel in the 2014 NFL Draft.

But now Jerry Jones has changed his tune on the Cowboys' decision to pick up offensive lineman Zack Martin in the first round of the draft.

Rave reviews for Martin

At the time, Jones lamented the decision to take a lineman over Manziel, only because Martin was lower on their draft board. But now Jones is definitely glad the Cowboys chose the Notre Dame product over Manziel.

“Well, Martin has been beyond any expectation that I or anyone else had,’’ Jones said. “There are a lot of people thinking that he might be the best draft pick that they’ve seen, certainly in this past draft."

Changing his tune

These comments differ to the ones Jones made before the start of the season.

"I'm still so damn mad at Stephen," Jones explained. "I get madder, every day, about missing' (Manziel). I listened to everybody and I'm not happy."

Jones wanted to get Manziel to keep them relevant to the NFL public in the next ten years, but nothing keeps a team relevant more than winning - and the Cowboys still have a chance to lift the Lombardi Trophy this season.

Cowboys' miracle season

In some senses, it's a miracle that the Dallas Cowboys are set to face Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Game of the NFL playoffs.

At the start of the season, Dallas were predicted to be one of the top five worsts teams in the NFL. A leaky defense was made worse by the loss of influential linebacker Sean Lee, and their offense didn't look like it was ready to take off like it has this season.

In reality, the Cowboys' defense hasn't significantly improved. Rather, Dallas have become less susceptible to big plays but they are still giving up a lot of yards.

However, the quality of their offense has saved the defense from the same blushes it endured during the 2013 NFL season.
