The downfall of former New England Patriots tight-end Aaron Hernandez from the graces of the NFL to prison has been heavily watched.
Where his life used to consist of touchdowns, championships and a place in one of the NFL's best offenses at the time, he is now surrounded by handcuffs, prisons and controversy.
Every eye has been on Hernandez and the murder trial that has ended the career of one of the most exciting tight-ends in the league.
Hernandez hasn't played in the NFL since he was arrested in 2013 in connection with the murder of Odin Lloyd.
Now, as his trial finally gets under way and becomes one of the most high profile in American sports history, it has already taken a big twist.
- NFL star ordered to pay $12.4 million to victims of strip club shooting
- NFL Division Playoffs Pick'em: Baltimore Raves vs New England Patriots
- San Francisco 49ers star thwarts attempted robbery
Jury selection is under way in Bristol County, Massachusetts and one of the potential jurors instantly ruled himself out of the trial.
The unnamed New England man showed up in a Boston Bruins jersey and reportedly shouted "Go Pats" in the courtroom.
Sports apparel has already been banned from the courtroom for the duration of Hernandez's trial.
Showing up in a Bruins jersey and shouting for Hernandez's former team now appears to be a sure fire way to get yourself out of jury duty.
Clearly jurors will have to be on their best behaviour in the Hernandez trial so it will be interesting to see what other twists the case will have before sentencing is complete.
Waste of talent
The New England Patriots are currently the top seed in the AFC and have been to the last three AFC Championship games - losing the last two.
This weekend they face the Baltimore Ravens in this years divisional round with many tipping the Patriots to go all the way to Arizona and contest in this year's Super Bowl.
During his playing days, Hernandez and current star tight-end Rob Gronkowski helped the Patriots become one of the most feared offenses in the NFL.
Had Hernandez not committed his crimes and continued to playing football, he could have become one of the most important players in the league with Gronkowski having missed large portions of the last two years with injuries.
Who knows what could have happened with Hernandez, but he is now facing a far more bleak future and it will be very interesting to see where his future will play out.
