Video: Gareth Bale kicks in epic basketball shot after NBA London inspiration

Football News

Gareth Bale may have made his name terrorizing defenders on the football field but the Welshman showed this week that his talents with the ball appear to know no bounds.

Trick shot

We might be a little late to the party on this one but, having been inspired by the NBA's recent Global Game in London on Thursday, the Real Madrid star took to his official Instagram account to show of a little basketball-come-football trickery.

Taking aim for the basketball in sun-drenched Spain, Bale, unlike his NBA counterparts, opted to use his feet to sink an impressive shot from distance.

After easing himself into it by reeling of some run of the mill kick-ups the former Spurs man nonchalantly volleys the ball toward the basket - making a half court 'shot' that ends with nothing but net.

NBA inspiration

Bale accompanied the video with the following message:

"Just saw the @nba game in London. Always thought it was easier with my feet!! Show me yours skills, use #GB11Skills."

The play will impress both football and basketball aficionados alike but with Bale having risen to the upper echelons of the world game in recent seasons it is hardly surprising.

As Bale alluded to the NBA were recently in the UK to promote the game to a wider audience with the Milwaukee Bucks beating the New York Knicks 95-79 at the o2 Arena.

Although we are pretty sure league officials, no matter how desperate they are to see the game expand beyond the US border, would be calling foul playing on Bale's impressive trick play.

As for Bale himself he was back to his day job this weekend scoring for Real Madrid as they won convincingly on the road to Getafe.
