NXT superstar Kalisto could be set to make the step up to the WWE main roster according to reports from Wrestling Inc today.

The high flying luchador - one part of the all-conquering Lucha Dragons tag team in WWE's developmental territory based at Full Sail Univeristy in Florida - has been impressing Triple H and WWE bosses for a while and it seems that his time has finally come to make the big step up.

Kalisto has always been viewed as the next Rey Mysterio and with the former fans favourite looking set to depart the WWE, it seems Vince McMahon and co are looking to fill the void he will leave in a marketing and merchandise point of view. Mysterio was always over with the kids so WWE could be banking on the kids being into Kalisto now and buying his mask, among other items, at the WWE Shop.

The comparison between Kalisto and Mysterio is an obvious one. The two are short in stature high flyers and are both masked babyfaces that could never really be heels even if they tried.

Currently, Sin Cara - Kalisto's tag partner in the Lucha Dragons - is the only active Mexican talent on the WWE roster, and it could be Sin Cara's sudden burst back onto television in a feud against intercontinental champion Bad News Barrett that could be Kalisto's launch pad to main roster action.

Recent NXT tapings give some backing to the beliefs that Kalisto and Cara could be set for a longer period on Raw and Smackdown. At the most recent NXT recording, which has yet to be aired on the WWE Network, Kalisto and Sin Cara lost their tag team titles to Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake in a shocking upset that no one would ever predict.

Murphy and Blake are nowhere near on the Lucha Dragons right now and for them to drop the titles to Murphy and Blake seems to point at something big happening for Kalisto and Cara.

Get ready for a lot of "Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!" chants in the near future people.
