Steven Gerrard has been given the WWE treatment by Liverpool fans after the Kop unveiled a new banner in tribute to the Anfield captain.

Before kick-off against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup last night, the Liverpool fans hailed Gerrard as 'the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.'

That is a quote attributed to former-WWE star Bret 'The Hitman' Hart, but one the Kop has now applied in homage to their skipper.

Gerrard is off to LA Galaxy at the end of the season, leaving Liverpool with a massive void to fill in the middle of midfield.

Chelsea and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Tuesday evening in the first-leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final.

Chelsea opened the scoring through Eden Hazard from the penalty spot on 18 minutes after Emre Can had fouled the Belgian international. But Raheem Sterling equalised on the hour mark, the England international bursting through to level on 59 minutes.

Gerrard hit the post as Liverpool came on strong in the second half and the Liverpool skipper was replaced on 70 minutes by Adam Lallana, the former-Saint returning earlier than expected from a thigh injury.

The former-England captain was hammered throughout by the away support who refused to let Gerrard forget his slip against the Blues last season.

It was an encouraging performance from Liverpool against a team favoured for the league title, but Jose Mourinho's Chelsea will be the favourites now to progress to the final at Wembley.

Second semi-final

Tottenham and Sheffield United get their semi-final underway this evening at White Hart Lane.
