Arsenal star Thierry Henry made quite an impression at last night's National Television Awards but only thanks to a show of appreciation from a legend of the small screen, none other than Eastenders mainstay Ian Beale.
Henry marched on stage at the 02 Arena to present the award for Best Reality Show and thankfully for Adam Woodyatt, the man who has played Albert Square veteran Beale for 30 years next month, that timed perfectly for a chance encounter between the pair that sent Twitter into overdrive.
Beale was still on stage with the cast of Eastenders after collecting the award for Best Soap and it's fair to say he was absolutely delighted to see Henry, failing brilliantly to keep his composure as he greeted the Frenchman's arrival with an epic cheer.
Viral gold as soap meets sport
It's fair to say Henry was feeling the love at the 02 Arena, introduced by another massive Arsenal fan in host Dermot O'Leary. The new face of Sky Sports looks like he's enjoying life back in London as a media personality after finally calling time on a glittering playing career, but nowhere near as much as Beale last night.
For breaking character so spectacularly surely Beale the squeal is facing another tirade of abuse from Phil Mitchell, but judging from the massive grin his reaction produced from Henry I doubt he'll care.
Smiles all round
Henry should get used to mixing in celebrity circles on the London circuit, but probably won't come across another flat-out fan at a big awards ceremony like this. Tremendous work Beale, reacting like any Arsenal fan should!
