Arsene Wenger reveals how he missed out on signing a Premier League star

Arsene Wenger has a big decision to make as to whether or not he wants to move for Hamburg midfielder Tolgay Arslan, as the player’s representatives are waiting to hear from him. It’s said they’re on the verge of finalising a deal for their client to sign for Besiktas, and will press ahead if Wenger turns them down. The 24-year-old is seeking wages of around £40,000-a-week, and Arsenal might not be prepared to match what other suitor’s are putting on the table. Elsewhere Wenger has revealed that he came agonisingly close to landing Manchester United star Angel Di Maria, when the player was just 17-years-old. The Frenchman confirmed today that when Di Maria was still a rising talent he tried to land him, but was scuppered by a work permit. Finally the Gunners have singled out Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi for transfer, with the Spanish midfielder deemed to be surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu as Los Blancos look to land Lucas Silva.
