The Royal Rumble pay-per-view is edging closer and one lucky superstar will have the honour of main eventing WrestleMania XXXI and challenging the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, the superstars defending the title remains to be seen.

Seth Rollins and John Cena will be aiming to dethrone Brock Lesnar who looks to be on his way out of the WWE after WrestleMania and a new World Heavyweight Champion being crowned is a possibility.

In the other big match we will see a last man standing in the Royal Rumble match, one superstar who will outlast 29 others and headline WrestleMania and there are a number of firm favourites to walk out the victor.

The likes of Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan are easily the favourites to win the Rumble whereas the likes of Rusev, Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler also have the fans talking as potential dark horses to win the Rumble.

The WWE have a big job in ensuring that the WrestleMania main event is massive, in the last few years we’ve seen some huge main events with Daniel Bryan the most recent defeating Randy Orton and Batista and in the coming months the WWE need something just as big, if not bigger.

Here are what I believe would be the best potential main event matches the WWE could put on involving the winner of the Royal Rumble and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

This is something Daniel Bryan has said he wants and if the WWE want to try another championship run with Daniel Bryan and get him even more over than he already is or was last year then a victory over the beast that conquered the streak would be a huge victory for Bryan, perhaps even bigger than his victory last year.

Last year he had two huge opponents in Randy Orton and Batista, not forgetting the match with Triple H earlier in the night so he had a tough night, but there isn’t anyone more destructive inside a ring than Brock Lesnar and the two could tell a great story inside the ring if a match between the two does happen. Whether you like him or not, Bryan deserves a run as champion considering how unlucky he was last year, he sells tickets and merchandise and is a safer bet when compared to someone like Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns has time on his side and who knows how many championship runs Daniel Bryan has left in him with age and his nagging injuries.

A Brock Lesnar and Daniel Bryan match would be better, and the fans would be into this journey a lot more that other matches.

If the WWE want the greatest possible wrestling match they could put on any card, then Seth Rollins taking on Daniel Bryan is the clear winner. The men have the chemistry, a story could be told so well every single week and the possibilities are endless as any stipulation would make this match that much better. It’s a perfect set-up, Daniel Bryan right now is the ultimate baby face, everyone loves him and cheers for him and they want him as champions whereas Seth Rollins is at the complete opposite end of the spectrum, he’s the lowest of the low and the greatest heel in the business.

It would be fantastic for the independent wrestling fans also, those that have followed Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black right to the summit of the WWE and they’d showcase their talent and chemistry together better than any other pairing. It would be a huge slap in the face of the doubters and a great sight to see Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black compete in the main event of WrestleMania when years ago people would have laughed at the prospect of that happening.

It won’t be the greatest wrestling match but the entertainment factor would be great, plus it involves a trio the fans grew to love even during their heel days as The Shield. This is a fantasy match for WWE fans and a great match to show just how far these NXT superstars have come, main eventing WrestleMania is no small feat and even though the jury is out on Roman Reigns, his big name and look would be a good addition to this match rather than having another outing between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins – which would still be great.

This is another way to elevate Roman Reigns into superstardom but at the same time a victory over Brock Lesnar would be a huge deal for him, but this match would release some of the pressure he has on him as the entire workload of carrying or helping to carry a main event match at WrestleMania won’t fall entirely on his shoulders; with Ambrose and Rollins he has two of the best.

If the WWE has so much faith in Roman Reigns then there’s not much the fans can do but wait and watch before killing his momentum already. He has the potential and even though fans have their doubts about throwing him into the deep end right away without a singles title, it looks as if the WWE will ignore those warning signs and go ahead with plans. Roman Reigns is a huge name in the WWE and he too will sell tickets and the biggest names he should face are Brock Lesnar or John Cena.

Both matches make sense, either way Roman Reigns becomes the WWE World Heavyweight Championship but put yourself in Roman Reigns’ shoes for a second – would you rather defeat the beast that conquered the streak, destroyed John Cena at SummerSlam and had an incredible 2014? Or would you rather defeat the undisputed face of the WWE for the best part of a decade? A win in both situations is a big achievement for Reigns and even though the doubters are there, the match will sell.
