WWE: Justin Gabriel quits WWE days before Royal Rumble

WWE superstar Justin Gabriel has surprisingly quit the company this weekend.

According to reports from F4wonline.com (subscription required), the three-time former tag team champion Gabriel has suddenly decided to up sticks and leave Vince McMahon's company.

Rumble Day

What makes it even more of a surprise is the fact that Gabriel was due to take part in the Royal Rumble today, a major event and one of the biggest Pay-Per-Views in the WWE calendar.

Gabriel (real name Paul Lloyd Jr.) signed with the World Wrestling Entertainment in 2008. While the South African native didn't have the classic big man physique or mic skills he did have the high-flying in-ring skills and charisma to suggest he could be a hit.

He started off strong as well, on the first season of NXT then as part of the Nexus.

But since the split of Nexus, Gabriel struggled to stay a relevant figure and in recent years found himself relegated to appearing on Main Event or Superstars, while he was also rumored to be the man in the Bunny costume seen with Adam Rose, a fellow South African.

Gabriel ended up winning the WWE tag team titles three times with former Nexus stablemate Heath Slater, but that never led to anything for either of the two.

Gabriel will be turning 35 soon and maybe he sees it as a time to move on, join somewhere like Lucha Underground where his high flying skills would be much greater appreciated than they were by Vince McMahon and the rest of the WWE big bosses.
