Manchester United plan to offload midfielder Nick Powell before the close of the January transfer window, reports Goal.com.
The 20-year-old, who spent the opening half of the campaign on loan at Premier League outfit Leicester City, returned to Old Trafford after a disappointing spell under Nigel Pearson.
And now, despite having only returned to the club a couple of weeks ago, it appears that he's set for another temporary switch away from United. The same report has in fact suggested that Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has assessed the youngster in recent weeks, with the Dutch manager now ready to offload him once again.
Despite his difficulties at Leicester, Powell is still recognised as a fine young talent, but may well have to move down to the Championship in order to secure first-team football.
And the report from Goal has revealed that as many as three teams are interested in the player's services, with it being suggested that the trio of Derby, Watford and Wigan are considering moves for the midfield ace.
Powell previously spent a spell on loan at Wigan, so could be tempted by a return to the DW Stadium in this winter window. It now remains to be seen as to whether any of the clubs step up their interest in the young Englishman over the course of the next week.
Despite struggling for first-team opportunities at Old Trafford, Powell managed to play a leading role for the club's Under-21 side against Liverpool last night. In fact, the youngster opened the scoring as the Red Devils beat their rivals by two goals to one.
Paddy McNair, who has been able to prove his credentials under Van Gaal this term, proved to be the match winner, whilst Spaniard Victor Valdes played his first game for the Old Trafford outfit.
It certainly looks set to be a busy week or so for Powell, and he will be desperate to impress in the second half of the campaign.
