Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has plenty of transfer plans to occupy his mind for the remainder of the January transfer window, with what happens between now and Monday being heavily scrutinised by all those who follow his club.

Yet it could be the summer when the Dutchman unleashes the full force of his powers, with United believed to be ready to hand him another colossal transfer war-chest to help him secure the signatures of some of Europe’s best players.

As we edge closer to deadline day the gossip has naturally picked up, so here we’ve carefully selected the juiciest cuts for you to feast your eyes upon.

Pogba latest

The agent of Paul Pogba, Mino Raiola, has once again reiterated that his client could well leave either this year or the next, implying that a move to a top club was more a formality than a possibility. United are just one of the sides heavily linked with trying to secure his future, with others like Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City also in the hunt.

"I want the club that buys him to believe in him and be willing to pay for him. If Paul leaves Juventus, it is for the absolute top. If it does not happen this year, it will be next year," Raiola.

"Paul is at the same level economically as the other big stars and has a similar reputation, so he could stay for another year.

"But Paul is the only major star who is available at the end of the season. If you cannot take Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, you can only go for Paul.

"If someone wants him, the market situation could see him go for more than €100 million."

One sticking point for certain outfits could be the prospect of the 21-year-old costing upwards of €100 million, which Raiola also mentioned in his latest statement. United will have such funds available to them in the summer virtue of their new sponsorship deal with Adidas, but whether or not Van Gaal will consent to blowing a large portion of his budget on one player remains to be seen.

Hummels bid

Elsewhere fresh reports circling out of Germany this morning suggest that United are preparing to make a €50 million offer for Mats Hummels, as Van Gaal looks to finally land the player he’s been chasing since assuming charge of the Old Trafford helm.

The Borussia Dortmund star is a pivotal cog in Jurgen Klopp’s side, but with his team struggling near the bottom of the Bundesliga table there’s every chance Hummels might see his future away from the Signal Iduna Park.

De Gea

Lastly there’s been an update to the case of David de Gea, with United said to be prepared to sell him if it looks like he’ll leave for nothing. The Spaniard is coveted by Real Madrid, and if he expresses a desire to swap Old Trafford for the Santiago Bernabeu his current club will look to get as much as they can for him as opposed to standing in the way of a transfer.
