Manchester United are ready to offer an 18-month contract to Salford City trialist Sadik El Fitouri following his impressive performances for the Red Devils’ Under-21 side.
El Fitouri, who was previously on the books of Manchester City, was encouraged to try out for United after joining Salford last month.
And he caught the eye of Old Trafford coaches with his displays in training and during a match between United’s Under-21 side and players on the fringes of the Red Devils’ first team.
El Fitouri to join United's Under-21 side
The Daily Mail understand the 20-year-old fell out of love with the game after becoming disillusioned with his slim chances of making it at the Etihad Stadium, but is now in the process of forging out a career for himself elsewhere.
Should El Fitouri accept United’s contract offer, it’s expected he will join Warren Joyce’s Under-21 setup rather than being thrown straight into Louis van Gaal’s first team.
Van Gaal is reportedly on the hunt for a new right-back - the likes of Dani Alves and Seamus Coleman have been linked in recent weeks - but El Fitouri could have the chance to put pressure on Rafael should he continue making an impact with United’s Under-21 side.
Scholes and Neville recommended El Fitouri
It was reported earlier this month that El Fitouri had been recommended to Manchester United by former assistant manager Phil Neville and club legend Paul Scholes, who co-own Salford City along with fellow Class of ’92 members Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim.
It was also said that the former Manchester City youngster “stole the show” in the match against United’s fringe first-team players, including Adnan Januzaj, Darren Fletcher and Victor Valdes.
To date he has only made one appearance for Salford - in a 2-1 win over Kendal Town in the Evo Stick Northern Premier League earlier this month - but that was enough to convince Neville and Scholes that this is a player with the potential to play at the highest level.
Manchester United are now expected to make an announcement over the acquisition of El Fitouri within the coming days.
