Richard Sherman does not rule out missing Super Bowl if girlfriend gives birth

Football News

Richard Sherman is set for one of the biggest challenges of his career when he is set to take the field on Sunday for the Seahawks’ Super Bowl clash with New England Patriots. Sherman’s girlfriend, Ashley, on the other hand is on the verge one of the biggest tests of her life in the form of childbirth.

A quick glance these two pieces of information would suggest that they have no relevance to each other whatsoever. However, if the stars align on Sunday there is the chance both may happen at the same time, leaving Richard Sherman with one of the toughest dilemmas any sportsman can ever have.

There have been many media interviews this week and many stories – mostly surrounding the Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch and the Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski – that have been just downright silly. However, in and amongst the bizarreness, Sherman revealed to the media this week that he and his girlfriend are expecting a son imminently.

Slim possibility but still

The possibility that Sherman could miss the Super Bowl because of his girlfriend going into labor is quite slim, granted, but when questioned on the subject, Sherman declined to rule out the possibility of him missing the game if the small possibility of his partner giving birth on Sunday does happen.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” Sherman told the media on Tuesday.

It’s said that Sherman and his partner are expecting their first child together in the next week, but doctors have assured Sherman that his partner shouldn't be set to give birth on Sunday. But just in case, Sherman has decided bring Ashley with him to the Super Bowl in Arizona.

Preparing for a potential disaster

Should the nightmare scenario strike later this week, the Washington Post have revealed that the plan is to have Sherman’s partner head to a local hospital if she goes into labor. As for Sherman, he’s trying to put that huge dilemma to the back of his mind.

“We’re not thinking about the possibility,” added Sherman.

Meanwhile, what do you think NFL fans? If the unlikely possibility of Sherman’s partner going into labor happens, should Sherman miss the birth of his first born child or miss the Super Bowl? Leave your thoughts in the comments box below.
