Football News

Those bright and bushy eyed Chelsea fans who were up at the crack of dawn this morning will be all too aware that today could be a period of transfer mayhem at Stamford Bridge.

Not only is Andre Schurrle on the verge of completing his exit to Bundesliga high-flyers, but it appears that Juan Cuadrado will soon be in town to complete a Blues medical. And Jose Mourinho wasn’t prepared to do business this transfer window… Go figure.

With hardly anytime at all left between now and the market slamming shut until the summer though there’s always more gossip to be had, and if you’re one of those fans that likes to see proactivity from your manager in the form of plots to do deadline-day deals, Chelsea are a good team to support right about now. Here’s the latest…

£43m follow-up

According to reports The Special One is keen to follow up the signing of Cuadrado - assuming it happens imminently - by acquiring both Douglas Costa and West Ham forward Enner Valencia.

The duo have both been linked with Chelsea in recent days, and though the agreement concerning Cuadrado was assumed to have put paid to any other incoming transfers this month, the Blues are still in talks with both me.

Indeed Monday could herald a day of mass expenditure on Mourinho’s part, with the Portuguese coach said to be ready to spent another £43 million - after the £27 million needed to activate Cuadrado’s release clause - on Valencia and Costa. That takes his winter window spending up to a nice round £70 million.

Goodbye Schurrle

Elsewhere it’s farewell Schurrle, with the Germany star all but having put pen to paper on a deal to join Wolfsburg. Having been frozen out at Stamford Bridge the forward will be keen to get his career back on track, and a sum in excess of £20 million is set to be the fee the Blues will receive for his signature.

Strootman injury

Lastly Kevin Strootman’s injury woes have put the kibosh on any potential deal in the works to see him move to the Premier League, with the Netherlands international set for another spell on the sidelines. Whilst tweeting his misery the AS Roma star confirmed he would be out in order to rest a bruised knee he sustained against Fiorentina.
