Gary Cahill to fight for starting role

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill will have to fight for his position as a first-team regular, as Jose Mourinho’s interest in Real Madrid star Raphael Varane is refusing to die down. According to reports the 29-year-old’s Stamford Bridge career is now in jeopardy thanks to a number of unconvincing displays, and the rise of Kurt Zouma, coupled with Mourinho’s glowing opinion of Varane, could be enough to see him lose out for good. Varane has worked with Mourinho before, whilst The Special One was in charge of Real, and is touted as one of Europe’s top young talents. Meanwhile a deal for Fiorentina star Juan Cuadrado is hinging on the future of Andre Schurrle and looks like it could go down to the wire. If Schurrle moves to Wolfsburg Chelsea will have their man, but at the moment it is uncertain. Lastly any lingering rumours over a move for Sergio Ramos have been put to bed, with the Real veteran claiming he couldn’t see himself playing in any other shirt.
