Cesc Fabregas has been accused of punching the windscreen of a bus after being called a "shit footballer", during a road rage incident last week in London.
The Sun on Sunday spoke with the bus driver concerned in and he claimed that the incident was sparked by the Chelsea playmaker' cutting across the bus while driving on Putney Bridge on Thursday of last week.
Martin Hughes claimed that Fabregas' manoeuvre, who the report says was driving his £150,000 Aston Martin Vanquich, forced him to swerve to the kerb and that he showed his frustration at the incident by beeping his horn.
52-year-old Hughes then claimed that Fabregas responded to this by showing the bus driver his middle finger. When traffic had stopped Hughes got out of his cab and tapped on the Spain international's window to give him a piece of his mind, but got a barrage of abuse in response - it was then that the driver called the midfielder "a shit footballer".
Perhaps that critique of his game tipped Fabregas over the edge, because after that incident Hughes claims that the 27-year-old initially drove down the road for a short distance before stopping, getting out of his car to return to the bus and then punching the windscreen in anger after another exchange.
“He started swearing. He told me to f*** off and said I was an a*******. “I said to him, ‘I know you and I’ve got it all on camera – and by the way you are a s*** footballer’" he is quoted as saying in the report.
“He drove off a little bit further and stopped again in the traffic. He got out of his car, left his door open and started taking pictures of the bus with his phone.
“I leant out of my window and pointed out that it was all caught on my bus camera — then he came up and punched the windscreen on my side of the bus. It was quite a hard punch but there wasn’t any damage. I watched him get back in his car and speed off.
"I just thought he was an idiot. I felt like asking him if he had a British driving licence. I didn’t even know he was famous at first. I just thought it was someone with a flash car who thinks they can do what they want on the road."
Injury Woes For Fabregas
Fabregas might have been in a bad mood because the night before the incident he was forced to come off through injury as Chelsea defeated Liverpool 1-0 after extra time in their Capital One Cup semi-final second leg.
It meant the former Arsenal and Barcelona star missed the crucial clash with defending Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, forced to watch from the sidelines. The report claims that representatives of the player did not respond to requests for comment.
