Super agent Jorge Mendes has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo loves Manchester United supporters, reports the Mirror.

Mendes, who also looks after the likes of Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Co., ha hailed the Real Madrid superstar as the 'best sportsman ever', insisting that he could only leave the Bernabeu for around £300 million.

Ronaldo, of course, left the Theatre of Dreams in the summer of 2009 for a then world record fee of £80m, and has gone from strength to strength in Spain ever since.

In fact, back in September, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal revealed that he would be interested in the signature of Ronaldo, but admitted that a deal would prove extremely unlikely.

And Mendes, despite admitting Ronaldo's love for the United faithful, has insisted that Ronaldo will not leave Real, unless the club decide to sell him.

"He loves the Man United supporters, he told me because he was there for six years," Mendes told the BBC.

"But now he is at Real Madrid, he will not leave Real Madrid.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player ever in the world and the best sportsman ever.So you can't compare Cristiano Ronaldo with anyone else. It's impossible to find someone like him.

"If for any reason the club decide to sell him for £300m, someone will pay."

It appears, then, that Ronaldo will continue to star in La Liga for the foreseeable future, but it remains to be seen as to whether Manchester United make an attempt to bring him back to England's elite division anytime soon.

Immediate focus

For now United supporters will be hoping that their current crop of stars step up as the club go in search of glory this term. With United currently sitting in third place in England's elite division, the club will be confident that they can regain their place in next year's Champions League.

And tonight attentions will turn to the FA Cup as United go in search of claiming their place in the fifth round of the competition by beating League Two outfit Cambridge United at Old Trafford.

With the FA Cup acting as the club's only realistic chance of securing silverware in this campaign, Van Gaal is expected to name a strong side this evening.
