Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that midfield ace Francis Coquelin has signed a new contract with the club.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of tomorrow afternoon's north London derby with Tottenham, the Gunners boss insisting that he was happy with the club's January business, revealing that both Coquelin and Chuba Akpom had committed their futures with the club.

The Akpom deal had previously been confirmed, but Gunners fans will no doubt be pleased with the Coquelin news. The midfield ace has enjoyed a fine spell in the club's first-team of late after breaking into the side earlier on in this campaign.

There's no doubt about it, the Frenchman is now recognised as one the club's most important midfielders, and he will be hoping to progress even further under the guidance of Wenger over the coming weeks and months.

Wary of Kane

The Gunners chief has also hailed Tottenham forward Harry Kane ahead of tomorrow's huge showdown. Kane has been in tremendous form of later, and Wenger has clearly recognised his talents.

Insisting that Kane has been extremely impressive this season, the Gunners boss will no doubt be hoping to keep him quiet at White Hart Lane. A win for Arsenal would no doubt help them in their quest to secure Champions League football for next season.

Gundogan interest

On the transfer scene, meanwhile, and Arsenal have been credited with interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

As reported by the Express, it has been suggested that the north London outfit could make a £15 million move for the player's services in the summer transfer window.

In fact, the same report has suggested that Dortmund could be set for a fire sale if they're relegated from the Bundesliga, which would only improve Arsenal's chances of landing Gundogan.

It now remains to be seen as to whether the Arsenal hierarchy step up in their pursuit of the midfield ace in the near future.
