Football News

Chelsea will be looking to keep the gap between themselves and second-placed Manchester City at five points this weekend as they take on struggling Aston Villa.

The Blues travel to Villa Park having recorded a draw against Manuel Pellegrini’s Citizens last weekend, and Jose Mourinho is sure to feel confident playing against a side who are on course to set a new record for the least amount of goals scored in a Premier League campaign.

Yet before the hype surrounding tomorrow’s match kicks into overdrive there’s other matters to be discussed, with the papers from this morning having offered various segments for Chelsea fans to feast upon as they look to consume the latest news out of Stamford Bridge. You want it, you got it. Here’s today’s roundup.

Courtois's five-a-side team

First and foremost there’s an excerpt sure to be of interest to Blues fans up and down the country with Thibaut Courtois having revealed who he would pick for his dream five-a-side team, made up of players he’s shared a dressing room with.

The Belgian stopper opted for summer arrival Filipe Luis, former Atletico Madrid teammate Koke, Chelsea star Eden Hazard and none other than Manchester United forward Radamel Falcao.

Naturally the most intriguing choice is the last, though we’re fairly sure it’s due to the fact that Courtois played with Falcao at Atletico that he gets the nod, not because they’re currently rivals in the Premier League.

Sterling speculation

Next up is a spectacle sure to have Liverpool fans raging, with talkSPORT broadcaster Paul Breen-Turner having claimed that Raheem Sterling will leave Anfield this summer. Though his quotes directly refer to Real Madrid as the favourites for the England international’s future, the Daily Express imply that Chelsea fans have every right to be optimistic.

Media silence no more

Lastly Mourinho has promised to break his media silence when he holds his press conference later today. The Special One refused to speak to journalists prior to and after the game against City last weekend, but has revealed he will answer questions ahead of his side’s trip to Villa.
