Reports from the continent are claiming that Thibaut Courtois’s relationship with Jose Mourinho isn’t as healthy as it might seem from the outside looking in, and that as a result the players father has spoken to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid regarding their interest in his son.
Sensational claims from Spanish journalist Manuel Esteban Manolete - the very same man who professed recently that Angel Di Maria had confided in friends that he was unhappy to have signed for Manchester United - made via television station La Goleada, cite that Thibaut senior had been speaking with Spanish superpowers, with Le 10 Sport implying that a transfer could be in the offing.
According to Le 10, Manolete told Goleada: "The father of Courtois is a lynx, he has begun to probe Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid."
"The father of Courtois is a lynx, he has begun to probe Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid"
The comments made are in spite of the fact that Courtois returned to Stamford Bridge last summer to oust the long-serving Petr Cech from his position in between the sticks - one that he had maintained for the best part of a decade.
The Belgian international carved out an impressive reputation during his three-year loan spell at Atletico Madrid, and his status as one of the most desirable goalkeepers in Europe has been enhanced by his performances thus far in the Premier League.
With Manolete’s quotes not delving any deeper than face-value with regards to the theory that Courtois and Mourinho find themselves at odds with each other it’s difficult to get behind the idea that his future is in doubt.
Cech or Courtois
Cech has very much found himself backup to the 21-year-old, and surely even Mourinho’s notoriously stubborn approach would be curbed by the importance Courtois has within the squad.
Indeed if anything the general consensus is that it will be the No.2 at Stamford Bridge who is forced to find himself a new club in the summer. Cech, though still considered one of the best ‘keepers in the world, has only featured four times in the Premier League for the Blues this season, and that isn’t likely to be a return he’s overly happy with.
Chelsea fans, would you be content to see Courtois leave and Cech re-assume his familiar position? Or is the latter going to have to depart if he wants regular game-time? Let us know in the comments box below...
