Brandon Bostick tweets he's been cut by Packers month after playoff calamity

Football News

The Green Bay Packers have parted ways with tight end Brandon Bostick today, the player himself revealed via social media.

The departure of a third string tight end would not normally garner much interest but Bostick of course achieved infamy recently after his role in the Packers late collapse in the NFC Championship game.

Leaving on a bad note

Bostick was the man who failed to collect a Seattle Seahawks onside kick in the dying stages of the game, allowing the ball to bounce of his helmet and Seattle to recover.

The 25-year-old spent two season with the Green Bay Packers - debuting in 2013 after going undrafted out of Newbury college.

Unfortunately though, after failing to get much game time despite appearing in 24 games between 2013-14, it will be Bostick's final five seconds of action in a Packers jersey that will be remembered.

Parting message

Bostick himself revealed his Green Bay departure with the following message posted to his official Twitter account.

He added a later message in which he expressed excitement at what the future had in store.

It would be seen as harsh for a franchise to cut a player simply for one on-field faux pas but it certainly looks like Bostick's moment of madness has contributed to his departure.

Mistake the major issue?

Had he stuck to his role on special teams - a blocker for wide receiver Jordy Nelson who was detailed to catch the onside kick - Bostick may well have been preparing to play his football at Lambeau Field in 2015.

The Packers aren't exactly blessed in the tight end department at present that is for sure and they will certainly be making a move in the position this offseason - whether in the draft or via free agency.

Bostick leaves Green Bay having made nine receptions and scored two touchdowns.

What do you think Packers fans? How much of the blame for the Seattle loss can be put on Bostick? Did he ever show enough to justify a new deal? Let us know in the comments section below...
