Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has claimed that goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has been the club's best player of 2015 so far.
In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge has hailed the Belgian shot-stopper as a shining light after he endured a tricky time on Merseyside.
Mignolet, of course, was even dropped from the first-team before the club's fixture with Manchester United late last year, but was handed another chance in the side after his replacement Brad Jones picked up a long term injury.
There's no doubt about it, Mignolet was having a season to forget before the turn of the year, but he's started to find his best form of late, and has certainly been impressing Aldridge.
The former striker stated: "He had some dark days earlier in the season, but Simon Mignolet has been a shining light in the last month.
"In fact, I think he’s been Liverpool’s best, most consistent player since the turn of the year.
A Mignolet fan
In fact, Aldridge has insisted that he was always a fan of the 'keeper, even when he was going through his tricky spell at the club.
He continued by saying: "He was excellent against Palace, and deserves huge credit for turning around his season so spectacularly.
"I’ve always been a fan of his, even when he was struggling. And it’s great to see him back to his best."
Liverpool fans - much like Aldridge - will certainly be pleased with the player's turnaround in recent weeks, however they will be hoping that there's even more to come from the Belgian over the coming weeks and months.
He has more to prove
In truth, despite some strong performances, Mignolet will still have to prove some doubters wrong as Liverpool go in search of climbing the Premier League table and securing FA Cup success this term.
Mignolet, though, has certainly proved he has enough about him to prove his credentials, so Reds fans should be optimistic over the player's future at the club.
