Shawn Michaels has denied that he tried to ruin CM Punk's career when Punk was having his WWE tryout.
A week or so ago we reported the news that Michaels and Triple H allegedly tried to absolute bury Punk when he was having his tryout in front of Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis and several other top bosses and writers at the WWE.
The man who revealed this was a former WWE writer himself, Court Bauer, who was talking on his podcast. He said that Triple H and Michaels mocked and laughed at every single aspect of Punk as he wrestled, including his gimmick, attire, haircut and body composition.
"They annihilated his look and his work and I'm like 'you just sunk the guy in front of the Chairman!'" Bauer said on the podcast. Bauer compared the criticisms to a bad DX skit where they were just relentlessly mocking everything about Punk. "They were shredding this poor guy," Bauer said.
But Michaels has decided to respond to those claims - only the 11 days late there - saying that he's never even heard of Bauer and that he has always been a fan of Punk, even despite his walking out on the WWE.
In a recent interview on Sirius XM Radio, Michaels acknowledged that he had learned of the accusations and they’re completely false.
“I had someone tell me, ‘Triple H, he buried CM Punk.’ One, I never even met the guy [Bauer], supposedly he worked for us. Dave Lagana will tell you, as Punk will, that I was one of his biggest fans,” Michaels said.
Bauer had a few things to say on Twitter after Michaels quotes were picked up by wrestling sites, subtly calling HBK a liar.
Wrestling will always be incredibly filled with politicking and stories like this will be he said/she said until proof emerges. But this came so far out of the blue and with Bauer having nothing to gain from it that i can't look past it. We'll just have to wait and see.
