Motivational notes written by Andy Murray before his quarter-final loss to Frenchman Giles Simon at the Rotterdam Open have been published on Twitter, giving an insight into how the Scot deals with competing at the very highest level.

The notes were handwritten and once found by Dutch sports journalist Wilfred Genee, were photographed and published on Twitter.

The instructions included advice such as 'be good to yourself'.

The notes did not to Murray much good, however, as he crashed to a 6-4 6-2 loss to Simon.

Regardless its a fascinating insight into the mindset of a player who has changed his on-court persona noticeably in recent years, with less tantrums and more focus helping to ensure Grand Slam success.

2015 promises to be very testing year

Murray reached the Australian Open in January but lost out to Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final.

The World number four is looking to get back to his best this year after multiple injury set-backs.
