WWE: Potential feuds for Sheamus' return as a heel

On the February 9 episode of Monday Night Raw a vignette promoting the return of Sheamus aired which means The Celtic Warrior will soon be back on our television sets once again.

The last time we saw Sheamus was when he dropped the United States Championship to Rusev which was a WWE Network exclusive before being attacked by the new United States Champion and Mark Henry which wrote him out of the Team Cena vs. Team Authority storyline so he could undergo surgery.

Now that the vignettes have aired the Sheamus return is imminent and attention is already turning to who he could feud with considering WrestleMania is just over a month away.

The majority of the WWE Universe will hope that Sheamus returns to the WWE as a heel and becomes the same monster he was when he first arrived on the scene and there are plenty of options to choose from should he return as a heel and it could all kick off if he decides to make an appearance this Sunday at the Fastlane pay-per-view.

Dean Ambrose takes on Bad News Barrett this Sunday for the Intercontinental Championship and it’s not clear whether the two will have a potential rematch at WrestleMania. The build-up has been entertaining and the likelihood is that Barrett will retain the gold.

The fans still love Dean Ambrose, he’s probably not as over as he was during his feud with Seth Rollins but he still entertains and this would be the perfect time for Sheamus to return to the WWE as a heel and attack a fan favourite. It would be a big test for Ambrose to see how he deals with a monster-like superstar in the build-up to WrestleMania.

It will also be a big test for Sheamus to see if he still has what it takes to be a good heel against a superstar who is over with the crowd after being a face himself for quite a while.

It doesn’t look like Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan will get their WrestleMania match next month and reports suggested that Dolph Ziggler could team up with Ryback instead; but I feel a match against Sheamus would suit Dolph Ziggler a lot better, it would help both superstars.

Much like Dean Ambrose, Ziggler is over with the WWE Universe and taking out a massive face in the form of Ziggler would already establish Sheamus as a heel and in the weeks building up to WrestleMania Sheamus would draw enough heat to make this match relevant at WrestleMania 31.

The standard of their matches will obviously be at a high level as the two have shown in the past so with this feud the fans wouldn’t have much to worry about, the pressure would be on Ziggler and Sheamus to make sure they go out and put on great performances.

The biggest name on the list, John Cena goes into Fastlane to end Rusev’s undefeated reign and capture the championship that made him famous. This match was rumoured to take place at WrestleMania 31 so it’s unusual to see this match take place a month earlier especially if the two are to go at it again a month later.

This would be the perfect set-up for Sheamus to make his return, especially at Fastlane. Many would believe he has unfinished business with Rusev and could interfere to take him out but instead taking out John Cena would be a huge heel turn especially since the fans don’t expect this match to go down the middle, Cena could win through disqualification but he might not walk out with the gold.

This could set up a big clash between Sheamus and John Cena, they’re trustworthy in the ring, they can put on a good match, the build-up will be entertaining if Sheamus continues to play the role of a heel well and they’d be reliable to put on a great performance at WrestleMania.

Randy Orton and Sheamus have had their run-ins in the past and Orton is yet to make his return to the WWE also. It would be a great time for Orton to return to the WWE as a face whilst Sheamus returns to take him out and turn heel.

Randy Orton could return and take on Seth Rollins which has been the rumour for a number of months now but the WWE could still go in a different direction, as long as Sheamus and Daniel Bryan don’t go one on one at WrestleMania the WWE Universe should be happy.

Sheamus is a good, safe worker in the ring and his style works well with Orton and it will be a great change for once, to see Sheamus in the role of a heel whilst Orton enters the feud as a face, it will be refreshing in this feud but that won’t work in any feud with Sheamus as a heel.

Finally, I think Ryback would be a good opponent for Sheamus. Ryback will be in the six-man tag team match at Fastlane teaming with Erick Rowan and Dolph Ziggler as they take on Seth Rollins, The Big Show and Kane. Right now there isn’t a standout name for Ryback to challenge at WrestleMania other than the likes of Kane or The Big Show but if the WWE want a bigger match than that for Ryback, then Sheamus would be a great option.

Ryback is doing well as a face, the crowd are responding to him and he deserves a good WrestleMania match after the last couple didn’t exactly go his way. Having Sheamus play the heel in this feud would help Ryback establish himself as a top face in the company and the matches the two compete in should also be entertaining with plenty of hard-hitting moves.
