Burnley boss Sean Dyche has hit back at Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese tactician slammed Ashley Barnes for his tackle on Nemanja Matic, reports the Daily Mail.

Mourinho described the tackle as potentially career-ending one, however Dyche has defended his striker over the controversial incident.

In a 10 minute analysis, the Burnley boss said: "On slow mo(tion) of course it looks ugly but there was contact with the ball (from Barnes). I would suggest once you are in that pendulum motion to play a pass it is very difficult to then retract your leg immediately and stop your leg from going through that ball and rising.

"I must make it clear when you see it in slow mo it does not look pleasant.

"I find it hard to believe, however, that all these people - especially the manager - using very strong phrases didn't have any reaction at all at that live moment. I find that a hard one to accept. We can all use slow mo, things often look different.

"The likes of John Terry, a real warrior and a top class professional in my opinion, Zouma, big strong boys, Ivanovic, right on top of this moment.

"Jose Mourinho, similar view to me, the crowd behind me, circa 15,000 fans. No one reacts. Apart from Matic."

Ultimately, it's an issue that is unlikely to go away anytime soon, especially after the FA failed to take any further action on Barnes for the challenge.

Matic set to miss the final

Staying with Matic, and it appears that he is set to miss this weekend's Capital One Cup final despite the Blues having appealed the red card he received after the collision with Barnes.

The Mirror have reported that the commission looking into the Matic case could reduce the ban to one game, which would ultimately still keep him out of the Wembley showdown.

Ivanovic is the best

Manchester United legend Gary Neville, meanwhile, has suggested that Chelsea full-back Branislav Ivanovic is the league's best.

In a Q&A session on Twitter, the Sky Sports pundit insisted that Ivanovic has been the best right-back in the division throughout the course of the campaign.
