This Friday sees what can only be described as a deluge of important news concerning Manchester United hit the web, with Louis van Gaal pushing forward big plans for the future.
Not only does the information give a timely update to a host of first-team players, but it also contains the latest injury news and contract finalisations. There’s a lot to get through so we’ll press on without further ado, enjoy.
Van Gaal's mass clear-out
Undoubtedly the biggest talking point of the day is a claim originating from the Daily Telegraph that suggests Van Gaal has met with senior Old Trafford chiefs to discuss the futures of no less than ten first team players.
It’s already been purported this morning that Rafael da Silva will be moved on in the summer, having fallen out of the Dutchman’s favour, but how many of his teammates may be following him remains to be seen.
There’s plenty of familiar United faces staring down the barrel of uncertain futures, and the report in the Telegraph says that amongst the individuals Van Gaal will be deliberating over are David de Gea, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.
The former is arguably United’s most important player and so the club will do everything they can to keep hold of him, though the other two are fighting to convince the Red Devils that they’re worthy of staying for another campaign.
Meanwhile midfield veteran Michael Carrick is reportedly going to be handed a one-year contract extension as a result of Van Gaal’s talks, whilst it’s already been decided that Tom Cleverley won’t be staying.
Of the back-line none of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling or Jonny Evans have been overly convincing, though it’s the latter who is at the biggest risk of being offloaded. Finally both Anders Lindegaard and Javier Hernandez will have to find new clubs come the end of the season.
Moving into other news and Van Persie’s situation has gotten a whole lot worse, with it being stated that he could be missing for up to a month as a result of suffering ankle ligament damage against Swansea City. The Dutchman has cut a frustrated figure up top for United this year, and the latest blow won’t have helped his bid to stay in Van Gaal’s plans any.
Lastly academy graduate Tyler Blackett put pen to paper on a new two-year deal yesterday to dispel rumours that he was set for the chop. The youngster’s contract was set to expire this summer, prompting speculation over his imminent departure, but he’ll now stay on until 2017 and there’s an option for a third year as well.
United fans, which players would you expect to see given the boot this summer? Who deserves to stay? Let us know in the comments box below...
