Paul Merson believes Arsenal will comfortably beat Everton

Arsenal hero Paul Merson has backed his former club to comfortably beat Everton when the two sides go head-to-head in the Premier League this weekend.

Writing in his blog for Sky Sports, Merson has insisted that he expects the Gunners to respond immediately after suffering a nightmare defeat at the hands of French outfit Monaco in the Champions League Round of 16 this past week.

Shock defeat

There's no doubt about it, the club's defeat against the Ligue 1 outfit shocked many, but Merson has backed the north London outfit to put things right on Sunday as they concentrate on the Premier League.

In fact, Merson has predicted that Arsenal will win by three goals to nil, insisting that it will be a fairly easy game for his former side.

He said: "Arsenal will win this match quite easily. Everton are struggling quite badly at the moment and only got out of jail last week with a last-minute goal at home to Leicester.

"It is Arsenal all over really, they will get back to normal and then their disastrous Wednesday against Monaco will all be forgotten about. So I do not see anything other than a 3-0 Arsenal win here."

With the Gunners currently sitting in third place in the Premier League table, they will be desperate to secure all three points against Roberto Martinez's men as they go in search of claiming a place in next year's Champions League competition.

It may not be so easy

Time-and-time again over the years Arsenal have been able to bounce back immediately after a surprise defeat, however it certainly won't be easy against the Merseyside outfit.

Martinez's side, despite their struggled in England's elite division, will head into the game in confident spirits after booking their place in the Europa League quarter-final last night.

Romelu Lukaku will no doubt fancy his chances against the likes of Per Mertesacker and Co., so the Gunners will have to return to their best in order to secure all three points on home soil.

Wenger's side can certainly do just that, but they certainly won't be underestimating the Toffees, especially after Wednesday's result.
