In partnership with the NFL in the UK

Rob Ryan defends Dez Bryant over videotape controversy

Football News

Following a history making season for the Dallas Cowboys, it seems that their off-season could be one of the most eventful in the NFL.

The Cowboys are facing the unenviable situation of losing both Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray in free agency.

It appears that the Cowboys will be placing the franchise tag on Bryant but the Cowboys best wide receiver is currently facing a possible controversy.

There have been claims that a video exists that can only really be described as 'Ray Rice like' which would only create problems for Bryant and the Cowboys.

With no-one coming forward with the tape or even anyone who has been able to say they have seen it, fans are sceptical about its existence.

One man who is in no doubt however is Bryant's former coach and current defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints, Rob Ryan.

The Saints coach was speaking to TMZ about the possibility of the tape existing and had a clear response.

"That's a bunch of bull," - Ryan on Bryant's possible controversial tape

Ryan worked as the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys in 2011 and 2012 and will no doubt be familiar with Bryant himself.

"Dez is an awesome guy. He's a great competitor and probably the best receiver in football."

Filled with praise for one of the best receivers in football right now, Ryan showed a lot of confidence that the controversial tape doesn't even exist.

Big few months for Bryant

With the prospect of the franchise tag looming for Bryant, it now appears that there is nothing that will take him away from Dallas for at least another year.

He will once again be looking to link up with Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo as they try to make it to the post-season once again.

The Cowboys managed to break a three year streak of 8-8 seasons last year but the question now is, can the Cowboys do it again without DeMarco Murray?
