PSV director Toon Gerbrands has confirmed Memphis Depay has the option to leave this summer, but admits the club rejected an approach from Tottenham in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old came to prominence under the management Louis van Gaal at last year's World Cup when his inspirational performances for Netherlands helped them into the semi-finals.
Van Gaal was strongly linked with a move for him last summer as he left his role to take over Manchester United. The Old Trafford chief instead focussed on signing marquee names like Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao, but has maintained his interest in Depay.
Option to leave
It now appears the stars are aligning for Van Gaal with PSV ready to sell for the right price. Gerbrands hinted as little as £15million will be enough.
"I think these players are very attractive to a lot of clubs in Europe"
He told Dutch television channel NOS: "They [Tottenham] were willing to offer €20m (£15m).
"We decided to keep hold of him but he has the option to leave after this season."
"I think these players are very attractive to a lot of clubs in Europe.
"So far, no one has come forward with an offer [for next summer] but I expect we will come under great pressure [to sell]."
Depay has been in outstanding form for PSV this season, scoring 15 goals in just 21 Eredivisie appearances. That return has gone a long way to justifying comparisons between him and a young Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite plying his trade in wider positions thus far, the Dutch starlet is expected to move into a more central role in the near future. That would be the perfect scenario for Van Gaal, who is almost certain to be on the lookout for a new striker this summer.
Falcao has failed to impress on his loan spell and Robin van Persie has struggled for form and fitness. James Wilson has impressed at times, but has very little experience at the highest level.
Depay could come in as a direct replacement for Falcao with a view to him succeeding Van Persie as Manchester United's first-choice front-man.
