The NFL's free agency period will start on Tuesday March 10 and there are plenty of top players on the market ready to decide their next destination.
After some huge developments this week, with running back LeSean McCoy traded to the Buffalo Bills for Kiko Alonso, Philadelphia Eagles will likely be one of the busiest teams during the free agency period.
The Eagles have some huge cap room after getting letting go of McCoy, Trent Cole and Cary Williams, and some of the money available will certainly need to be spent on improving their defense.
Perfect fit?
One of the top free agents that will become available next week is Seattle Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell, and in an interview with CSN Philly on Friday, Maxwell made some surprise comments about how compatible him and the Eagles are.
“Their stye of defense is very similar to what we play in Seattle,” Maxwell said, ProFootballTalk reported. “Lot of man-press, cover 3. They allow their corners to play and get physical. Their scheme definitely fits me."
These comments from Maxwell certainly point to his desire to find a team similar to the Seahawks in free agency, and they also hint at the possibility that Philadelphia could be his final destination when he figures out his future in the next few weeks.
Is Maxwell that good?
The only danger that teams face when going in for Maxwell is the fear that he's only good because of the system he plays in and the team he plays for.
Playing alongside defensive stalwarts such as Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas would make even the most average player look awesome, and the fear with Maxwell is that his reputation doesn't match his actual skill set.
This could seriously affect the amount of money he tries to demand from teams. Coming from a champion team certainly adds a few dollars to his potential pot, and his suitors just have to be careful that they don't pay over the odds for his services.
