Rickie Lambert poised to drop out of England national team squad

Speculation has been rising regarding the squad that Roy Hodgson will choose for the upcoming England fixtures. In the spotlight is Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane due to his red hot form at the moment scoring 24 goals in all competitions.

Competition for Rickie Lambert? Well, yes. Because the former Southampton talisman has not been that consistent this campaign and is nowhere near the level that Kane is on at the moment.

Although we've seen that Lambert brings that something different to the squad with his strength and aerial ability.

As every other England fan would agree, the squad really needs to focus on the upcoming tournaments and with Lambert on the wrong end of 30 should we really look to him?

Hodgson should be looking towards the future and now is the chance for the young players to really excel in these upcoming games and really cement their place in the squad.

Too often the England squad is picked on reputation rather than form and with the likes of Charlie Austin and Danny Ings also impressing this season would the likes of Danny Welbeck and Lambert be the right choice because they just haven't been pulling their weight in the Premier League.

However if Lambert is selected surely this may be his last chance to prove his worth because of the likes of the previously mentioned we cannot deny that they will keep banging on the door of Hodgson and there is only so long before the birds come home to roost.
