Angel di Maria has only been a Manchester United player for seven months, but the Red Devils are already considering offloading the Argentina international in order to fund a move for Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale, according to fresh reports on Sunday morning.
The 27-year-old has failed to produce his best form on a consistent basis since arriving at Old Trafford for a British transfer record £59.7 million fee last summer - and now United are tempted to sell the world-class midfielder in order to fund a move for the ex-Tottenham star.
Bale has been a success since completing his world-record £86 million move to the Bernabeu from Tottenham in the summer of 2013, but that hasn’t prevented him from receiving stick from the club’s demanding supporters.
The Wales international, 25, has scored 36 goals in 80 appearances for Real Madrid and played an instrumental role in delivering the club’s tenth European Cup last season - but pockets of the Bernabeu faithful are expecting more and more.
A return to English football, where he established his status as a household name of European football, may appeal to Bale - but in order to the transfer to go through, United would need to submit an offer in excess of the fee paid to Real Madrid for Di Maria last summer.
