Manchester United have entered the race to sign Burnley striker Danny Ings, according to the Daily Mail.
The report has suggested that Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal sent chief scout Jim Lawlor to Anfield on Wednesday night to watch the young forward in action.
Ings is set to run out of contract at Turf Moor at the end of the season, and it now appear that United could make a move for the striker in the near future.
The 22-year-old has been in impressive form under Sean Dyche, having found the net on nine occasions in 25 Premier League appearances.
On the cheap
In fact, the same report has even suggested that the Old Trafford outfit would only have to pay Burnley around £6 million in compensation for the player's services, with it being suggested that Van Gaal could turn to the youngster as a cheaper alternative to Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.
Since arriving on loan from Monaco, Falcao has endured a tricky campaign at the Theatre of Dreams, meaning that his long term future at the club is uncertain.
Ings, then, could be the man the United hierarchy turn to, but they may have quite the battle on their hands as they attempt to bring him to the club.
As well as United, the report has claimed that the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and even David Moyes' Real Sociedad are interested in the striker's signature, but it remains to be seen as to whether any of the clubs step up their pursuit of him anytime soon.
Ings may not be a household name in the world of football, but he's certainly impressed many despite plying his trade for a team sitting in the bottom three of the division. With the likes of Falcao and Van Persie struggling, perhaps Ings would make a good option for the Red Devils.
At the end of the day, it just hasn't worked out for Falcao on English soil, so surely the Red Devils will look elsewhere as they go in search of long term success under the Van Gaal regime.
Ings, on the other hand, would be hungry to show his worth, and would prove a bargain at £6m. United could do a lot worse, so should look to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams.
