Brazilian Leandro sees red for UFC style takedown

Regional championships in Brazilian football are not usually a huge source of entertainment for the average European football fan, but the actions of one Murici player in the Alagoano league have brought some attention to the area.

In a clash away at rival ASA, Murici's Leandro committed the type of foul that can get a player branded as a bad sort. There may be some debate as to whether it was completely intentional, but that doesn't really take away from the horror of it.

Leandro was doing what he should have done and going in for a 50-50 challenge with an ASA player not far from the centre-circle. What followed though was just a little bit out of order.

Not only does her not get the ball, but Leandro then plants his boot right into the chest of his opponent and sends him to the floor a crumpled mess. While he may not have intended to do this when he started out, but this is a bit too brutal to be merely a mistimed challenge.

Leandro then added a bit of comedy to his routine by rolling around on the floor and making out as if he had picked up a terrible injury from the clash - come off it, mate, the game's up and you know it. Watch the horror tackle below.

When you see the whole thing through with the numerous replays, the challenge ends up looking like some kind of UFC take down, though his technique is all over the place, or perhaps a WWE big boot.

Either way, it was pretty nasty and the referee saw through Leandro's writhing to show him the red card. ASA capitalised on the extra man and ran out 2-0 winners to stay top of the Alagoano table.
