This week on NXT all eyes were on Alex Riley as he gave up his seat on the announcer’s desk and returned to in-ring action with Kevin Owens continuing to target him.

Alex Riley can get his chance at Owens, but must defeat CJ Parker first whilst the fans still eagerly wait for the return of Sami Zayn and the NXT Championship match between Kevin Owens and Finn Balor.

Also on the night, Alexa Bliss returns to action where she takes on Carmella and in the main event Hideo Itami and Tyler Breeze went at it once again.

Kicking off the show this week were the Lucha Dragons as they took on the entertaining duo of Enzo Amore and Big Cass. Enzo is on the microphone and fans are just waiting for the killer punchline and as expected, Enzo delivers. He thinks the Dragons are more like the Geico Lizards before Big Cass tells them to either save them 15 per cent or more or get out of their way which resulted in great chants from the fans, ranging from ‘Geico Lizards’ to ‘15 per cent’.

Enzo and Kalisto kick off the match and Kalisto gets the better in the opening exchanges, who takes him down with an armbar before Sin Cara is tagged in and lands a senton on Amore for a two count. Big Cass then enters and takes over but the Lucha Dragons still fight their way to stay on top.

This match was a lot longer than the one minute opening matches we’re used to on a weekly basis but the change was refreshing, a solid tag team match to open the show. Big Cass hit the East River Crossing on Kalisto before Enzo Amore hit the Rocket Launcher to give them the victory.

Next week on NXT we will see the matches that took place at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus Ohio before NXT airs two video packages. One focusing on Alex Riley and the second focusing on NXT Champion Kevin Owens, and his dominance since his arrival.

Divas action next as Alexa Bliss goes one on one with Carmella. Carmella starts off strong with a headlock, throwing Bliss down but she fought back by grabbing the arm to take over. Carmella started to unload punches to Alexa’s face after missing a charge into the corner and followed it up with the body scissors and driving Bliss back into the corner.

Once more, Alexa Bliss fought back by hitting a few forearms to the face and followed it up with a flip slash for a two count, she then hit the spinning splash from the top rope for the victory.

Alex Riley delivers a serious speech about being stuck inside of a cage for two years, being limited to pre-shows and commentary duties and constantly being told ‘maybe next week, kid.’ He highlights how Kevin Owens always talks about having a wife and kids but Riley’s family is in the arena and it’s now time for him to fight for his family.

Before Riley’s match, we see Tyler Breeze who continued with the cheap shots to Hideo Itami and hypes up their main event match, telling him the situation between them didn’t have to get ugly, but because Itami was involved it did have to get ugly.

CJ Parker is in the ring as he talks about how we’re destroying the earth but Alex Riley interrupts him and we dive straight into the match. CJ Parker attempted a headlock but to no avail as Riley responded with a great dropkick. The TKO is reversed by Parker and he starts to hit some lefts on Riley but Riley hits a big clothesline and finishes it off with the Blockbuster for the victory, Riley looked great in the time he was given.

After the match the NXT Champion makes his way out, Kevin Owens calls Alex Riley the dumbest man in all of NXT because he gave up his commentary career just so he can destroy his in-ring career. He then mentions Finn Balor before we move on to the main event.

It’s an NXT Takeover Rival rematch as Tyler Breeze starts off the aggressor, driving Itami into the corner and driving his shoulder into Itami’s ribs but Itami then lands a big kick to send Breeze to the floor. He hit the running knee into the corner and then an impressive tornado DDT into a guillotine but Breeze got back into it by locking in a chinlock. Itami fought back with a top rope dropkick and then hits a big kick for a two count. Tyler Breeze got a two count of his own with the Supermodel Kick.

The fans wanted the GTS but they didn’t get it, he started to land some quick, big strikes and attempted a running dropkick into the corner, but Tyler Breeze was one step ahead and landed the Beauty Shot for the victory.
