Eden Hazard wants Arsenal to beat Monaco for the good of English football

Football News

Chelsea star Eden Hazard has revealed that he'll be rooting for Arsenal in tomorrow night's Champions League last 16 showdown with Monaco, for the good of English football.

Hazard has friends at the Principality club, who hold a 3-1 first leg lead going into Tuesday's second leg after stunning Arsenal with an exhibition of ruthless counter-attacking football at the Emirates last month.

Arsenal face a gargantuan task to turn things round at the Stade Louis II and reach the last eight, but perhaps with one eye on keeping a Premier League rival playing three times a week he wants the Gunners to defeat the odds and win later this week.

Arsenal have Hazard's backing

"I have a friend Ferreira-Carrasco over there [at Monaco] and I wish him the best," Hazard is quoted by the Daily Star as telling Canal Plus.

"But for English football, I hope Arsenal go through."

Arsenal have genuine chance of shock result

Arsene Wenger's side travel to the Cote d'Azur later today with revenge on their minds, with the embarrassment of the first leg very much a black mark on the progress made domestically in 2015.

The Gunners have won their last eight home Premier League matches and now have a genuine chance of finishing at least second in the table, which was a target that looked beyond them before Christmas to put it politely.

Even with the momentum built with recent victories over Manchester United and West Ham it will take something quite extraordinary to knock the Ligue 1 side out on their own patch, but Hazard clearly think its possible and he's not alone.

Arsenal are aiming to become the first team to overturn a two-goal deficit away from home in a Champions League knockout tie, but at their very best its a performance there capable of if Monaco fail to match the high standards they've set defensively all season long.

Arsenal fans, do you believe there's hope of a shock tomorrow night? Are you surprised Hazard wants an English team and potential title rival to stay in the Champions League? Let us know by having your say in the comment box below!
