Football News

Cristiano Ronaldo is just as popular off the field as on it, it would seem, as he has overtaken Colombian singer Shakira as most followed person on Facebook.

A much followed man

The Portuguese forward may be suffering from an apparent on-field crisis at Real Madrid, but according to his tally of Facebook followers, he doesn't have anything to worry about regarding his popularity on social media.

To put things into perspective, the most-followed British footballer on Facebook is David Beckham, who lags miles behind the Madrid star with a mere 52 million likes to his name.

Ronaldo's popularity

The Ballon d'Or winner's popularity has never really been called into question of course. Back in October 2014 he became the first athlete to reach 100 million likes on Facebook and it would seem his recent shortcomings - naturally we're referring to the relative halt in his goalscoring prowess - haven't hindered him at all.

Seen as though he still has 41 goals across all competitions Ronaldo has very little to worry about with regards to the criticism being levelled at him. It seems that when Ronaldo is lacking by his own ridiculously lofty standards, he can always count on his Facebook fans to cheer him up.

Real fans, is Ronaldo going to turn things around in the next few games? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below...
