Chip Kelly has officially had a bit of a mental start to the season in his new role. Kelly is no longer just the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, he has taken on some general manager responsibilities as well.
This has led to two huge trades and several crazy free agency signings. When you thought trading LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills was a bit mad, Chip Kelly then upped the ante by deciding to trade away starting quarterback Nick Foles for injury-prone former St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford.
But then, today, things got a whole lot more insane. That's right, if you have already read the headline, Chip Kelly invited Tim Tebow to work out with the Eagles.
Tebow works out
The last bit of that sentence has exploded the internet to say the least. And it has been met with a huge amount of laughs and bewilderment.
Tim Tebow may be a Heisman Trophy winner, an NFL division title winner, and a player that has won an NFL playoff game in his career - but he's also known as a former player that simply can't throw a football.
Regardless of that, Adam Schefter reported today that the Eagles had Tebow in on Monday for a workout.
Is it so crazy?
The Eagles subsequently confirmed Schefter's report and we all laughed a good bit. But should we be doing that? How bad was Tebow? Well, he was so bad that he has been getting help on how to throw a football properly in recent times with the aid of Tom House, who is his personal coach.
"Turns out Tebow has been working diligently with Tom House (also Tom Brady's personal coach) in Los Angeles over the last two years, sharpening his skills and hoping for one last shot," Deadspin reported earlier this month.
"He went from being a little inaccurate and didn't throw a whole lot of spirals, to throwing very accurate and real good at spinning the ball," House told Deadspin.
In and amongst all of the criticism and ridicule of Tebow, he has after all won an NFC West title and a playoff game. Maybe he deservers one last shot at the NFL.
